Foreword:

Inmyhometown,thereisanoldwellthathasbeenaroundforgenerations.Itwasasourceofwaterforthevillagers,anditsagecanbetracedbacktomyancestorswhosettledinthisvillage.Asachild,Iusedtoplaynearthewellwithmyfriendsandwatchtheolderfolksdrawingwaterfromit.AsIgrewup,Imovedawayfrommyhometownandforgotallaboutthewell.However,duringarecentvisitbackhome,Irediscoveredthisoldwellandallthememoriesassociatedwithit.

Paragraph1:

Theoldwellstoodinthecenterofthevillage,surroundedbyalowwallmadeofstones.Itwasacylindricalstructure,madeofbrickandcement,witharoofoverittokeepitdryduringtherainyseason.

Paragraph2:

Thewellwaslocatedinthemiddleofafield,whichwasnowcoveredwithavarietyofcrops.Ononesideofthefieldwasasmallhutwherethecaretakerofthewelllived.Hewasanelderlymanwithawhitebeard,whohadbeentakingcareofthewellfordecades.

AsIapproachedthewell,Icouldhearthesoundofwatergushingfromit.ItbroughtbackmemoriesofmychildhoodwhenIusedtoplaynearitwithmyfriends.Wewouldsitonthelowwallanddipourfeetintothecoolwater.

Iwalkedclosertothewellandlookedinside.Itwasdeepanddark,withwateratthebottom.IrememberedhowscaredIusedtobeoffallinginasachild.

Iaskedhimifanyonestillusedthewellfordrinkingwater.Hesaidthatmostofthevillagershadswitchedtopipedwater,butsomestillpreferredtousethewellwaterforcookingandotherhouseholdchores.

AsIwalked,IcameacrossanoldtemplethatIusedtovisitwithmygrandparents.Itwasasimplestructuremadeofstone,withasmallgardeninfrontofit.

Ireachedthewellandsawthatthecaretakerhadleft.Isatonthelowwallandwatchedthesunsetoverthefields.Theskyturnedorangeandred,andasenseofpeacewashedoverme.

Asdarknessfelloverthevillage,Iknewthatitwastimeformetoleave.However,IknewthatIwouldbebacksomeday,torediscovermorememoriesofmyhometownandtoreconnectwithmypast.
